Education Awards
After we have sorted and sold thousands of books, wrapped gift baskets, hung paintings on panels and completed other fundraising tasks, we need to decide how best to distribute the funds. This is the pleasant dilemma for the Education Awards Committee.
Over time our focus has shifted. At first, the goal was helping high school graduates go on to university. This changed to supporting university students and mature women returning to further their studies.
We now include financial support for women studying in non-traditional vocations – carpentry, auto mechanics, building airplanes…. Hence we are extraordinarily pleased to note that for 2025/26, a very generous donor – Locweld – has donated an apprenticeship at their factory in addition to a monetary award.
Over the last several years, a greater number of First Nations female students are recipients of our Education Awards. This includes the Winnie Bird Award that is given exclusively to a First Nations woman.
Any member of the CFUW Montreal South Shore Club is eligible to participate on this Committee. Learn more about our Awards below.
